Jamie Oliver Onion Bhaji

Jamie Oliver’s onion bhaji is a deep-fried snack made by coating sliced onions in a spiced gram flour batter.

The result is a crispy, golden fritter with a soft, flavorful center.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water (as needed)
  • Fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Step 1 – Prepare the Onions

Slice the onions thinly and separate the layers.

Step 2 – Make the Batter

In a bowl, mix gram flour, spices, and salt. Add water gradually to form a thick batter.

Step 3 – Combine

Add the onions to the batter and mix until well coated.

Step 4 – Heat Oil

Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.

Step 5 – Fry the Bhajis

Drop small portions into hot oil and fry for 4–5 minutes until golden and crispy.

Step 6 – Drain and Serve

Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
