Jamie Oliver French Toast Crumpets

Jamie Oliver French Toast Crumpets

Jamie Oliver French Toast Crumpets combine two classic breakfast favorites. Crumpets are soaked in a mixture of eggs, milk, and warm spices before being fried in butter until golden.

The characteristic holes in the crumpets allow them to absorb the egg mixture, creating a soft, rich center while the outside becomes beautifully caramelized.

Ingredients

Scale

For the French Toast Crumpets

    • 4 plain crumpets

    • 2 large eggs

    • 100ml milk

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

    • 1 tablespoon butter

    • Pinch of salt

For Serving

    • 150g Greek yogurt

    • 150g fresh berries

    • 12 tablespoons honey or maple syrup

    • Icing sugar, optional

    • Fresh mint, optional

Optional Ingredients

    • ½ teaspoon orange zest

    • Pinch of nutmeg

    • Banana slices

    • Toasted nuts

    • Dark chocolate shavings

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Egg Mixture

Crack the eggs into a shallow bowl.

Add the milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a small pinch of salt.

Whisk thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined.

Step 2: Soak the Crumpets

Place one crumpet at a time into the egg mixture.

Allow each side to soak for approximately 30–60 seconds.

The holes in the crumpet will absorb the mixture, but don’t soak it for too long because it can become difficult to handle.

Step 3: Heat the Pan

Place a large non-stick frying pan over medium heat.

Add the butter and allow it to melt gently.

The pan should be hot enough to brown the crumpets but not so hot that the butter burns.

Step 4: Add the Crumpets

Carefully transfer the soaked crumpets into the pan.

Leave enough space between them so they can be turned easily.

Step 5: Cook the First Side

Cook the crumpets for approximately 3–4 minutes.

The underside should become golden brown and slightly crisp.

Step 6: Turn the Crumpets

Carefully flip each crumpet using a spatula.

Cook the other side for another 3–4 minutes until golden.

If the pan becomes dry, add a small amount of butter.

Step 7: Check the Center

The crumpets should be golden outside and soft but cooked through in the center.

If they’re browning too quickly, reduce the heat and continue cooking gently.

Step 8: Prepare the Toppings

While the crumpets are cooking, prepare your toppings.

Wash the berries and spoon the Greek yogurt into a serving bowl.

Slice bananas or prepare any other toppings you’re using.

Step 9: Serve the Crumpets

Place the warm French toast crumpets on serving plates.

Add a spoonful of Greek yogurt and scatter over the fresh berries.

Step 10: Add Honey or Maple Syrup

Drizzle with honey or maple syrup.

Add a light dusting of icing sugar if desired.

Step 11: Finish With Fresh Flavors

Add a little orange zest, fresh mint, or a pinch of cinnamon for extra flavor.

Serve immediately while the crumpets are warm.
