Jamie Oliver Apple and Blackberry Crumble

Jamie Oliver Apple and Blackberry Crumble

Jamie Oliver apple and blackberry crumble is a baked dessert made by layering apples and blackberries with sugar, then topping them with a buttery crumble mixture.

As it bakes, the fruit softens and releases juices while the topping turns golden and crisp, creating a satisfying contrast in every spoonful.

Ingredients

For the fruit filling

    • Cooking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

    • Blackberries (fresh or frozen)

    • Light brown or caster sugar

    • Lemon zest or lemon juice

    • Ground cinnamon (optional)

For the crumble topping

    • Plain flour

    • Cold unsalted butter, cubed

    • Light brown sugar

    • A pinch of salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Fruit

Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Place the sliced apples and blackberries into a baking dish and gently toss them together so the fruit is evenly mixed.

Step 2: Sweeten and Balance

Sprinkle the sugar over the fruit and add lemon zest or juice to balance the sweetness. If using cinnamon, add it lightly so it supports rather than dominates the fruit flavour.

Step 3: Make the Crumble Topping

In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles rough breadcrumbs with a few larger clumps for texture.

Step 4: Assemble

Scatter the crumble topping evenly over the fruit. Do not press it down, as a loose topping helps it crisp properly during baking.

Step 5: Bake

Place the dish in the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.

Step 6: Rest Before Serving

Remove the crumble from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to settle and makes serving easier.
